Tara's Advice

[whitespace] Tara

The Winning Whine

Dear Tara,
I'm so ashamed. I think of myself as this really spiritual person who meditates, works his 12 Steps and has been to therapy. And yet, when I don't get my way, I freak out; I become the biggest brat you've ever seen. Any kind words for someone who wants to be Gandhi, but is more like Jan Brady?
Sincerely, Waaaah!

Dear Waaaah,
Hon, we're humans, not gods. Throwing tantrums is what we do best. When a person writes about the world breaking his heart, we call it poetry. When someone whines in public, it's considered political action. Good luck, Waaaah, finding a single human endeavor that isn't motivated by some form of a tantrum. Don't torture yourself trying to be more enlightened than you are. Enshrine the whine and make something beautiful with it. You're here, you're pissed, get used to it. The way out is the way through, gracefully--I'll meet you there!
In fellowship, Tara "I Want an Ooompa-Loompa now, Daddy!"
