Michelin-starred chef Ho Chee Boon is bringing a new concept of multiple, seasonal Asian cuisines to San Francisco’s Marina neighborhood.
The Blue Whale, scheduled to open in September at 2033 Union Street will offer a lounge with multiple dining areas, plus a VIP private dining lounge and a backyard urban oasis.
In announcing the new restaurant, Blue Whale said it will offer “an authentic seasonal menu that celebrates Asian cuisines in a haven of relaxed hospitality where locals and visitors can enjoy drinks or dine together and unwind.”
Malaysian-born Boon brings a range of experience working in major cities around the world, and plans to introduce cuisine that reflects his travels and background. He has assembled a core team of experienced professionals, including Haley Moore, wine consultant; and Brandon Clements, spirits and cocktail specialist.
Blue Whale will focus on fresh and authentic ingredients in a contemporary Asian cuisine that will feature salads, small bites, entrees, and rice and noodle dishes. Presented in an a la carte format, the menu highlights include Crab Meat Xiao Long Bao, Wasabi Crispy Tiger Prawns with Pineapple and Baked Lobster with Buttermilk and Chili.
Guests entering Blue Whale will be greeted by a surprising and mysterious corridor that leads to an open-air courtyard before entering the main restaurant space, which includes two bars, a private VIP lounge, comfortable booths for group dining, high-top tables, two-tops and bar seating.
Behind the restaurant is the semi-private backyard patio where guests can escape the bustle of Union Street and be transported to a garden oasis, an environment and dining experience that is unique to the city. The patio will feature tiered seating surrounded by greenery, and a full , outdoor bar.
Blue Whale will be open from Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner. More details will be shared in the coming weeks.
